clocking in
Registering your arrival
Clocking in is recording one's arrival at work, originally by inserting a card into a time clock that stamped the hour.
The phrase now covers any method of marking when a shift begins—swiping a badge, entering a code, or signing a sheet.
I've been clocking in at seven every morning.
Figuratively, it can mean showing up or getting started: Time to clock in and get to work.
