clambakes

Coastal seafood parties

Clambakes are outdoor gatherings where clams and other seafood are cooked, traditionally by steaming over hot stones covered with seaweed.

The practice originated with Native Americans along the New England coast and became a regional tradition: The church held its annual clambake on the beach.

By extension, a clambake can be any festive gathering or party.
