civil partner
Registered union member
A civil partner is a person in a legally recognized civil partnership—a formal union that confers rights similar to marriage, typically between same-sex couples in jurisdictions where same-sex marriage was not yet available.
The term remains in use where civil partnerships persist as an alternative to marriage: She listed her civil partner as next of kin.
