fiancé

Engaged man's title

A fiancé is a man engaged to be married.

The word comes from French, where the feminine form fiancée (with an extra e) refers to a woman.

In practice, English speakers often ignore the distinction: Have you met my fiancé? works regardless of gender.

The accent mark is frequently dropped.
