civic centre

Town hall area

A civic centre is a public building or complex housing local government offices and community facilities—typically a town hall, council chambers, library, or performance spaces.

The term is chiefly British (spelled *center* in American English).

The new civic centre will include a library and meeting rooms.

Many towns built civic centres in the mid-twentieth century as symbols of municipal pride.
