chucks

Drill bit holders

Chucks is informal for Chuck Taylor All-Stars, the iconic canvas sneakers with rubber toe caps: She wore her favorite pair of chucks to the concert.

The term comes from the shoes' association with basketball player Chuck Taylor, whose name appears on the ankle patch.

Chucks also serves as the plural of chuck in its various senses—a cut of beef, a mechanical grip, or a casual toss.
