cesarean delivery
Abdominal birth procedure
Cesarean delivery is a surgical procedure in which a baby is delivered through an incision in the mother's abdomen and uterus, rather than through the birth canal.
Often shortened to cesarean or C-section: The doctor recommended a cesarean delivery because the baby was breech.
The procedure may be planned in advance or performed as an emergency when vaginal birth poses risks.
