myomectomy
Uterine tumor excision
Myomectomy is the surgical removal of fibroids from the uterus while preserving the organ itself.
Unlike hysterectomy, which removes the entire uterus, myomectomy allows patients to retain fertility: She opted for a myomectomy because she still wanted children.
The procedure may be performed through open surgery, laparoscopy, or hysteroscopy depending on fibroid size and location.
