caracul

Asian sheep breed

Caracul is an alternative spelling of karakul, a breed of sheep native to Central Asia prized for its distinctive curly fleece.

The term also refers to the tightly curled fur taken from newborn or fetal lambs of this breed, used in making coats and hats.

This fur, sometimes called Persian lamb or astrakhan, has a lustrous, wavy pattern that has made it a luxury textile for centuries.
