high mass
Significant physical quantity
High mass is the principal and most elaborate form of the Catholic Mass, featuring full ceremonial elements including incense, chanted prayers, and multiple clergy.
Distinguished from low mass, which is simpler and spoken rather than sung.
The term is now somewhat dated, as post–Vatican II reforms changed how masses are categorized: The cathedral still celebrates high mass on Easter Sunday.
