supply trains
Wartime provision caravans
Supply trains are convoys transporting provisions, equipment, and ammunition to military forces in the field.
Historically these were literal trains of wagons or pack animals; later the term applied to railroad cars serving the same purpose.
The supply train is a perennial military target—cut it off and the army starves.
The guerrillas ambushed the enemy's supply train.
