bund
Water-controlling levee
A bund is an embankment or dike, especially one built along a waterfront or to control flooding.
The term comes from German and appears in South Asian English for levees and embankments along rivers: The bund protected the village from monsoon floods.
In financial contexts, a Bund (often capitalized even in English) refers to a German government bond. (Capitalized Bund is a political federation or organization.)
