paddy field
Flooded rice plot
A paddy field is a flooded parcel of land used for growing rice.
The shallow standing water suppresses weeds and pests while the rice plants grow.
Paddy fields are the dominant agricultural landscape across much of Asia: Terraced paddy fields carved into the hillside.
Often shortened to paddy.
