bump stock

Rapid-fire firearm attachment

A bump stock is a device that attaches to a semiautomatic rifle, using the weapon's recoil to rapidly reset the trigger and simulate automatic fire.

The stock allows the gun to "bump" back and forth against the shooter's finger, achieving firing rates approaching those of a machine gun while technically requiring a separate trigger pull for each round.

Bump stocks gained notoriety after the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting and were subsequently banned in the United States.
