trigger assembly

Gun's release system

A trigger assembly is the complete mechanism in a firearm that controls firing—including the trigger itself, springs, sear, and related parts that release the hammer or striker when pulled.

Gunsmiths and manufacturers treat it as a modular unit: The rifle shipped without a trigger assembly installed.

Also called a trigger group.
