buffalo hunters
Prairie game pursuers
Buffalo hunters were people who killed American bison, especially during the 19th century when commercial hunting nearly drove the species to extinction.
The term applies both to Native Americans who hunted buffalo for subsistence and to white hunters who slaughtered millions for hides, meat, and sport—often leaving carcasses to rot on the plains.
