levirate
Marry deceased's widow
Levirate is the custom or law requiring a man to marry his deceased brother's widow.
The practice appears in ancient Jewish law and various other cultures, ensuring the widow's protection and continuing the dead brother's lineage.
Under levirate marriage, the firstborn son was considered the heir of the deceased.
