coal bunker
Solid fuel store
A coal bunker is a storage compartment or bin for holding coal, typically found on ships, in basements, or attached to houses.
Before central heating became standard, most homes had a coal bunker where fuel deliveries were deposited: The coalman emptied his sacks into the bunker.
The term persists in British English even where the structures have been repurposed.
