blockprints
Carved surface prints
Blockprints are images or patterns created by pressing an inked carved block—typically wood or linoleum—onto paper or fabric.
The technique produces distinctive bold lines and solid areas of color, with each print showing slight variations that distinguish handmade work from mechanical reproduction.
As a verb, to blockprint is to create such impressions.
She learned to blockprint textiles using traditional Indian methods.
The term also applies to the finished products themselves.
