blind pig

Prohibition-era bar

A blind pig is an unlicensed establishment selling alcoholic beverages, especially during Prohibition.

The term is interchangeable with blind tiger and speakeasy, though blind pig has a slightly rougher, more working-class connotation: The raid shut down three blind pigs on the South Side.

Still used occasionally for nostalgic or ironic effect.
