gastrula
Three-layered developmental stage
A gastrula is an early-stage animal embryo, formed when a hollow ball of cells folds inward to create distinct layers that will become different body tissues.
This developmental stage, called gastrulation, is when the basic body plan begins to take shape: The embryo had reached the gastrula stage by the third day.
