blackfish

Dark cetacean species

Blackfish is a common name for several dark-colored marine animals.

It most often refers to pilot whales or killer whales—the latter made famous by a 2013 documentary of this name about captive orcas.

The term also applies to certain dark fish species, including the tautog found along the Atlantic coast: We caught three blackfish off the jetty.
