betting ring
Wagering operation group
A betting ring is an organized group engaged in gambling, often illegally.
The term can refer to a criminal enterprise taking bets on sports or races: Police broke up a betting ring operating out of the back room.
At racetracks, the betting ring is also the physical enclosure where bookmakers stand to take wagers from bettors.
