Point shaving is a form of sports corruption where players deliberately limit their team's margin of victory to affect betting outcomes.
Unlike throwing a game outright, point shaving keeps the favored team winning while ensuring they don't cover the spread: The investigators found evidence of point shaving—the team won, but by fewer points than expected.
The practice is notoriously difficult to detect because the team still wins.
