race fixing
Corrupting competitive events
Race fixing is the corrupt practice of predetermining the outcome of a competitive race—typically horse racing, dog racing, or auto racing—through bribery, drugging animals, or collusion among participants.
The fixer ensures a particular competitor wins or loses, usually for gambling profit: Three jockeys were arrested in the race fixing scandal.
Distinguished from match fixing, which applies to team sports and other competitions.
