each-way
Win or place
Each-way describes a type of bet, common in British horse racing, that covers two outcomes: a selection to win and to place (finish in the top positions).
The stake is divided equally between the two bets, so an each-way bet costs double a straight win bet.
I put five pounds each-way on the favorite.
If the horse wins, both parts pay; if it only places, only the place portion returns.
