going berserk

Flying off handle

Going berserk means losing control in a violent or frenzied way.

Someone who goes berserk might fly into a rage, attack others, or destroy property: The customer went berserk when they refused his refund.

The phrase can also describe any wild, uncontrolled behavior: The kids went berserk when they saw the presents.

Less dramatically, it describes things malfunctioning chaotically: My phone went berserk and started calling random contacts.
