in-house counsel
Corporate legal employee
In-house counsel is a lawyer employed directly by a company or organization rather than working at an outside law firm.
The in-house counsel handles the employer's legal matters—contracts, compliance, litigation oversight—as a salaried employee: She left her partnership to become in-house counsel at a tech startup.
Also called corporate counsel or general counsel when heading a legal department.
