virtual server
Simulated computing environment
A virtual server is a software-based server running on shared physical hardware, functioning as if it were a dedicated machine.
Multiple virtual servers can operate on a single physical server, each isolated from the others with its own operating system and resources.
This allows efficient use of computing power and easier scaling: We spun up three new virtual servers to handle the traffic spike.
Also called a virtual machine or VPS (virtual private server) in hosting contexts.
