balsas
Buoyant tropical timber
Balsas is the plural of balsa, a lightweight tropical American tree or its wood.
Balsa wood is prized for model building, rafts, and insulation because it's extremely buoyant and easy to cut: The kids built balsas for the toy boat race.
In Spanish-speaking regions, balsa also means raft, so balsas may refer to simple watercraft.
