balljoint

Spherical mechanical joint

A balljoint is a mechanical joint allowing rotational movement in multiple directions, consisting of a spherical end fitted into a socket.

Most familiar in automotive suspension systems, where balljoints connect control arms to steering knuckles: The mechanic said my front balljoint was worn out.

The design mimics the human hip or shoulder joint.
