bailor

Temporary goods entruster

A bailor is the party who entrusts property to another under a bailment—a temporary transfer of possession without transfer of ownership.

The bailor leaves a car with a valet, drops clothes at the dry cleaner, or stores goods in a warehouse.

The one receiving the property is the bailee.

The bailor remained liable for damage caused by the vehicle's defective brakes.
