backcrosses
Returns to parent
Backcrosses is the plural of backcross, a breeding technique where a hybrid offspring is crossed back with one of its parent strains.
The method is used to reinforce desired traits from that parent while retaining some characteristics from the other: After several backcrosses, the disease resistance was firmly established in the new variety.
Common in plant breeding and genetics research.
