asystole
Heart's electrical absence
Asystole is a medical term for the absence of electrical activity in the heart, resulting in no heartbeat and no blood circulation.
Unlike ventricular fibrillation, where the heart quivers chaotically, asystole presents as a flatline on a cardiac monitor.
It represents the most severe form of cardiac arrest and carries a very poor prognosis.
The patient went into asystole and could not be resuscitated.
