aphonia
Complete vocal failure
Aphonia is the loss of voice—the inability to produce speech sounds.
It differs from hoarseness, where the voice is strained or raspy; in true aphonia, no voiced sound emerges at all.
The condition may result from damage to the vocal cords, neurological problems, or psychological causes.
The patient presented with complete aphonia following surgery.
