vocal rest
Prescribed voice hiatus
Vocal rest is refraining from speaking or singing to allow the voice to recover.
Doctors prescribe it after surgery on the vocal cords or during laryngitis: The singer was on vocal rest for two weeks after the procedure.
Complete vocal rest means no talking at all; relative vocal rest allows limited, gentle speech.
