anomia

Can't name objects

Anomia is a neurological condition in which a person struggles to recall the names of things—objects, people, places—despite recognizing them.

Someone with anomia might know exactly what a fork is and what it does but be unable to produce the word.

The condition often results from stroke, brain injury, or dementia.

In milder forms, it resembles the tip-of-the-tongue phenomenon, but persistent and disabling.
