price fixing
Illegal competitor agreement
Price fixing is an illegal agreement between competitors to set prices rather than let the market determine them.
Companies may conspire to maintain artificially high prices or coordinate discounts: The executives were charged with price fixing after emails revealed they'd agreed on minimum prices.
The term sometimes extends to government-imposed price controls, though this sense is less common.
