age discrimination
Bias against elders
Age discrimination is unfair treatment based on someone's age, typically targeting older workers in employment contexts—hiring, promotion, or termination decisions influenced by age rather than ability.
Laws in many countries prohibit it, though proving intent can be difficult.
The term usually refers to bias against the old, but can apply to any age-based prejudice: She suspected age discrimination when the company hired someone half her age.
