acetates

Salts from vinegar

Acetates are salts or esters derived from acetic acid, but the word usually appears in everyday contexts referring to materials made from cellulose acetate.

Acetate fabric is a synthetic textile with a silky sheen.

In older usage, acetates were transparent sheets for overhead projectors or the lacquer-coated discs used to cut audio recordings before vinyl pressing: The band cut acetates of the demo.
