accessory fruit
Non-ovary derived fruit
An accessory fruit is a fruit where the fleshy part develops not from the ovary but from tissue surrounding it.
Strawberries are the classic example—the red flesh comes from the receptacle, while the actual fruits are the tiny seeds on the surface.
Apples and pears are also accessory fruits, with the core being the true fruit.
