Voyager missions
NASA's farthest probes
The Voyager missions are a pair of NASA space probes launched in 1977 to explore the outer planets.
Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 conducted flybys of Jupiter and Saturn; Voyager 2 continued to Uranus and Neptune.
Both spacecraft now travel through interstellar space, carrying golden records with sounds and images of Earth intended for any extraterrestrial intelligence that might find them.
The Voyager missions transformed our understanding of the outer solar system.
