Viking longship

Scandinavian raiding boat

A Viking longship is the long, narrow wooden vessel used by Scandinavian seafarers during the Viking Age (roughly 800–1100 CE).

Designed for both ocean voyages and shallow rivers, longships featured a single square sail and rows of oars, allowing them to cross the North Atlantic and raid far inland.

The distinctive curved prow, often carved with a dragon head, made these ships iconic symbols of Norse expansion and warfare.
