Vietcong

Jungle warfare fighters

The Vietcong were the communist guerrilla forces that fought against South Vietnam and the United States during the Vietnam War (1955–1975).

The term, short for "Vietnamese Communist," was used by opponents; the fighters called themselves the National Liberation Front.

Vietcong tunnels allowed fighters to move undetected.

The word sometimes appears as a collective noun or adjective: Vietcong forces, a Vietcong soldier.
