Green Berets

Elite Army commandos

The Green Berets are the U.S.

Army Special Forces, an elite unit specializing in unconventional warfare, counterterrorism, and foreign military training.

Named for their distinctive headgear, they became famous during the Vietnam War: His father served with the Green Berets in Vietnam.

The 1968 John Wayne film helped cement their place in American military mythology. (Lowercase green berets refers to the headgear itself.)
