VHS players

Cassette video devices

VHS players are devices that play VHS tapes—the dominant home video format from the late 1970s through the 1990s.

The full term is VHS videocassette recorder (VCR), though most people just said VCR.

These machines connected to televisions and allowed recording broadcast programs as well as playing prerecorded movies.

We still have a VHS player in the basement for old home videos.

The format was overtaken by DVD, then streaming, making VHS players largely obsolete.
