Trekkie
Sci-fi franchise fanatic
A Trekkie is a devoted fan of the *Star Trek* science fiction franchise.
The term emerged in the 1970s as the original television series gained cult following through reruns and conventions.
Some fans prefer "Trekker" as more dignified, though both terms describe the same enthusiastic fandom: The convention was packed with Trekkies in Starfleet uniforms.
