Abhidhamma Pitaka
Buddhist analytical texts
The Abhidhamma Pitaka is the third and most technical division of the Pali Canon, the scriptures of Theravada Buddhism.
Where the other two divisions present teachings as discourses and monastic rules, the Abhidhamma systematically analyzes reality into its ultimate constituents—consciousness, mental factors, matter, and nibbana.
Buddhist scholars debate whether these teachings trace directly to the Buddha or represent later systematization by his followers.
