Stone Mountain
Atlanta's granite landmark
Stone Mountain is a massive granite dome rising from the piedmont plain near Atlanta, Georgia.
The mountain is notable for a large bas-relief carving of Confederate leaders on its north face—the largest such monument in the world.
The site functions as a state park and tourist attraction, though the Confederate memorial has drawn increasing controversy.
We visited Stone Mountain on our trip to Atlanta.
