Seaway
Great Lakes passage
A seaway is a route for ocean-going vessels, especially an inland waterway deep and wide enough for large ships.
The term often refers specifically to the St.
Lawrence Seaway, the system of locks and canals connecting the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean: The seaway opened the Midwest to international shipping.
